 MOMENTUM IN FITNESS

We get people moving by making accessing fitness easy.

We’re making the move towards inclusive fitness

A LITTLE ABOUT US

Who we are

Momentum in Fitness is a charity that provides and facilitates accessible fitness sessions for local people across Hampshire.

We aim to break down and overcome the barriers which prevent some individuals and groups in our community from being physically active. Our work supports  everyone to experience the wide range of benefits from participating in exercise.

WE’RE HERE FOR EVERYONE

Why we exist

Everyone should be able, and have equal access to experience the benefits of participating in physical activity and exercise. However, we know that in reality there are many vast and complex barriers to entry for people within our community. Whether these barriers are real or perceived, we want to break down and remove these barriers as much as we can to provide everyone the opportunity to take part in, and experience the benefits of physical activity.

How we do what we do

Our Approach

As a developing charity, we want to ensure we are as impactful and effective as possible to drive long term growth and be in a position to support a broad and far-reaching demographic in the near future. This means that in our infancy, our work will be focused on supporting a handful of core groups with whom we are confident we can make a positive difference and deliver the greatest impact.

We’ll initially be running sessions for teens and older adults and are also in discussions with the NHS to facilitate exercise sessions at Southampton Children’s Hospital for young people with cancer or in recovery. We’re working on forming a further partnership with local NHS trusts to develop an intervention to support the general population referred to us via social prescribing.

Gaining Funding

We primarily gain our funding through local and national grants and trusts, while the remainder of our funding is made up of corporate and community fundraising.

Facilitating the Sessions

We adapt our approach to best suit the needs of the individual or groups we work with – as much as possible we will run sessions with our team of experienced coaches, but sometimes we will work closely with specialist partners to support the delivery of some programmes.

Our team are well versed in delivering fitness sessions and interventions, with many years of experience working with people from 5 to 75. We know how to ensure that those who engage with us [our beneficiaries] get the most out of their workout. Whether we’re facilitating an intervention with a group of under 12s in a hospital setting or getting a group of inactive over 70s moving, and helping prevent trips and falls, we always run an impactful session.

Reporting the Impact

Having comprehensive data on our impact is essential for us to grow and facilitate more. We’ll measure fitness and wellbeing levels of every attendee at the start of each session block, periodically throughout and at the end of the block to show the difference we’ve made.
