OUR CURRENT PROJECTS

What We’re Working On

We’re working on 3 main projects, we’ve broken them down below and will regularly update their status.

Working with young people

Project:Teens

We are piloting this project with a group of pupils from a local school who have SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties).

Momentum in Fitness are facilitating weekly exercise sessions at CrossFit Southampton, which are focused around strength and conditioning activity.

The aim of our sessions is to provide pupils with the opportunity to participate in alternative physical activity in a specialised environment. We’ve had great feedback from the participants and supporting staff so far, and we are seeking to secure funding to continue (and possibly expand) the project over the next year.

Working with young people with Cancer

Project:PiamBrown

We are working closely with a Paediatric Oncologist at Southampton General Hospital to support children and young people with cancer to participate in exercise and physical activity.

The project would facilitate two exercise professionals to visit the Piam Brown ward on a weekly basis to provide guidance, support and encouragement to patients on either a 1-to-1 or small group basis.

Participating in regular physical activity when having cancer treatment may help young people to manage the side effects associated with their treatment and make their overall quality of life better, as recent studies have proved that being active has a very positive impact on patient recovery and should be encouraged.

We’re hoping to start our pilot of this project in the coming weeks, and are in the process of applying for funding to begin full project delivery the near future.

Working with older adults

Project:FitForLife

Our Project:FitForLife aims to increase access to and participation in exercise for older adults. The project will deliver a specialised weekly exercise session by trained coaches to increase activity levels, improve physical health, strength and mobility and reduce social isolation.

The first hour of the session will be the exercise class, the second part will be a coffee morning providing the participants with an opportunity to socialise and form connections.

We’re awaiting a funder for the project but hope to have this secured soon to be able to start in January 2024
